The Do’s of Handling SIPs
Isowall insulated panels are valuable material, and it’s important to take care of them prior to use.
- DO store the SIPs on level ground.
- DO stack the SIPs carefully and efficiently, so that each floor’s panels are kept separate and labels are readable.
- DO use proper support for the panels so as to not allow them to sag. A sticker is needed every 6′-8′. For an 8′ panel, 2 stickers are sufficient, while a panel that is 12′-16′ will require 3 stickers
The Don’ts for Handling SIPs
While in storage it’s important to keep isowall insulated panels protected from damage. This means:
- DON’T store SIPs in direct contact with the ground. Allow at least 3 inches of space.
- DON’T allow SIPs to be exposed to the weather for long periods of time. They are rated for exposure during construction, but while storing, use a tarp.
The Do’s for Installing SIPs
One of the best things about isowall insulated panels is how accessible the quick and easy installation is. However, for the best results, there are several important things to keep in mind.
- DO create a plan for your installation. The easiest installation will be a well-ordered one. This means being very familiar with the installation drawings before setting the panels.
- DO set the panels in order. A plan is so important because it allows you to make certain all the panels are installed correctly, and that you don’t get stuck in a corner. It’s important to keep track of the short panels and long panels, and which are meant to slide, and which are meant for stopping.
- DO be precise and careful about laying all wall plates and trim to an exact fit as needed.
- DO follow all the instructions for joint sealing. SIPs’ thermal regulation properties are only as good as the sealing of their joints. It is also critical to be certain that all rough openings and penetrations are properly sealed.
- DO install plumbing in interior walls.
The Don’ts for Installing SIPs
Installing SIPs is a straightforward process so long as the following is avoided:
- DON’T cut wall panel skins horizontally. This may be tempting when installing electrical wiring, but while trimming vertically is fine, horizontal cuts must be avoided.
